The Butterfly I 8.5 Inch Hand-Painted Singing Bowl. Limited Edition Spring 2026 Run
The Butterfly Bowl, Spring 2026.
A nine-inch bell metal bronze singing bowl, hand-painted in Kathmandu, Nepal and one of the most visually complex pieces we have ever offered.
The Butterfly Bowl produce a warm tone in the third octave. Above that fundamental, each bowl generates a layered overtone series: a strong mid-range partial that carries the primary voice, a bright upper harmonic that adds shimmer and complexity, and a deep sub-resonance in the bass register that adds body and felt presence in acoustically rich spaces.
The Butterfly Garden is a visual meditation as much as a world class therepeutic sound instrument.
Against a hand-oxidized dark bronze ground, our artists painted more than a dozen individual butterflies, each in a distinct species palette.
Cobalt blue with wing venation traced in white. Sulfur yellow with burnt-orange borders. Magenta. Lime green. Deep burgundy. White with copper edging. Each butterfly is rendered individually: wings, body, antennae, and the fine white dot eyespots that shimmer when light catches them.
No two butterflies on any bowl are the exactly orientation.
Winding between them: painted flower stems in botanical detail with pinks, whites, blues, and orange five-petal blossoms with yellow centers, their vines curling naturally across the entire circumference. The dark ground is scattered with hand-placed white dots.
The rim is a wide polished bronze band, It grounds the composition and provides a clean striking surface.
Turn the bowl over and there is a second world: an engraved floral mandala etched directly into the bronze of the base.
A large central chrysanthemum surrounded by smaller buds, butterfly silhouettes in the ring, and a rope-pattern border enclosing the whole composition in two concentric circles.
The interior is burnished bright gold, showing the overlapping hammer facets of its construction.
The painting process alone takes multiple days per piece, from the base oxidation treatment, to the butterfly color work, to the floral vine detail, to the hand-dotted star field, to the final protective seal.
Each bowl is selected for acoustic quality first and foremost.
Each Butterfly Garden bowl ships with a handmade hardwood striker wrapped in suede for rim work and sustained overtones, and a soft-tipped mallet for a full, resonant strike along with the ring cushion.
Ten bowls are available. Each is handmade in Kathmandu, Nepal and guaranteed for life.
