Inner Fire Swing Chime I A4, C5, D5, E5, G5, A5, C6, D6, E6 I Minor Pentatonic Depth and Emotional Resonance

Welcome the Inner Fire Swing Chime, a portable sound instrument that spans three octaves with a distinctly introspective, soulful character.

This chime begins on A4—not C4—giving it a minor pentatonic foundation that feels more contemplative and emotionally rich.

Unlike traditional wind chimes that follow strict musical scales, this chime creates a harmonic wash and you'll hear a flowing blend of tones that naturally complement each other no matter how you play.

The Foundation (4th Octave)

Starting with our longest 22.8" bar tuned to A4, the Inner Fire establishes an unusual tonal center. Most Western instruments anchor on C, but this chime starts on A, which shifts the entire harmonic gravity. You don't get the grounding presence of a low C4 here—instead, the A4 creates a sense of suspension, like the music is already in motion when you begin.

The Bridge (5th Octave)

The middle register offers five notes: C5 (20.9"), D5 (19.7"), E5 (18.5"), G5 (16.9"), and A5 (15.9"). This is where the Inner Fire reveals its pentatonic structure—the same five-note pattern found in blues, folk, and meditative music traditions worldwide. No F, no B. Just the essential tones that create consonance without cliché.

The Sparkle (6th Octave)

The upper register mirrors the 5th: C6 (14.6"), D6 (13.8"), E6 (13.0"). These three notes add brightness and air to the darker A-rooted foundation. They shimmer above the bass and mid-range, creating a sense of light breaking through shadow.

Why This Isn't an "Exact" Scale

This instrument follows an A-minor pentatonic structure, but it's incomplete by design. There's only one note in the 4th octave—the A4 anchor. The 5th and 6th octaves carry the melodic content, but they don't replicate the full A-C-D-E-G pattern across all three registers.

The result? When you strike multiple bars in succession or let them ring together, you experience asymmetric resonance. The low A4 acts as a drone, a gravitational pull that the higher notes orbit around. The absence of a low C4, D4, E4, or G4 means the bass register is sparse—it's not trying to be a full-bodied foundation like the Sunrise Flow. Instead, it's a single anchor point, letting the mid and high registers do the harmonic work.

The gaps in the scale create space for the harmonics themselves to become the music. Each bar's overtones interact with neighboring fundamentals, producing difference tones and sum tones that weren't struck directly. This is what we mean by a "harmonic wash"—the instrument generates more frequencies than the number of bars would suggest.

The Sonic Output: Contemplative Without Being Melancholy

Because the bars are aluminum and the suspension is designed for maximum swing, each note sustains and decays relatively slowly.

Strike one bar and three seconds later you can strike another—the two tones will overlap, creating a chord that exists only in that moment. Strike all nine bars in a sweeping motion and you generate a cascading wash that takes 8-10 seconds to fully fade, each frequency revealing itself at a different rate.

The Inner Fire has a reflective, inward-turning quality. The A-minor pentatonic foundation means it naturally leans toward emotional depth rather than brightness. It's not sad—it's thoughtful. It doesn't resolve to major-key optimism; it hovers in a space of curiosity and introspection.

Because the low register is sparse (only one bar), the high and mid-range notes don't have a "full orchestra" beneath them. They float, unsupported by a dense bass section, which gives the chime an airy, delicate character despite spanning three octaves.
